Exploring Suoi Mo Waterfall (Thác Suối Mơ) with Kids
The Suoi Mo Waterfall (Thác Suối Mơ) or Gieo Waterfall (Thác Gieo) was basically a swimming hole waterfall situated about 35km to the southwest of Da Nang or 39km to the west of Hoi An.

Just over an hour from HOI AN via motorbike, you’ll find one of the best swimming holes to cool off on those hot summer days. Plenty of places to jump in - but be aware of your surrounding and use your judgement when doing so. Local kids were quick to jump in from quite high, and slide down the waterfall to enter the water, putting on an entertaining show we while we swam in the falls.
Halfway to the Falls: A Refreshing Stop
About halfway through the drive, you’ll spot a “Mixuee”, a knockoff version of the popular Mixue chain (note the extra “e” in the name). It’s on the left side of the road, roughly 31 km from Hoi An or about 30 minutes from Cam Thanh. Despite the name, the lemonade and soft serve taste just like the real deal, making it a perfect mid-ride treat. Just look out for the big red MIXUEE sign!
The Drive
The road to the waterfall is smooth and easy to navigate, taking you through a few towns and along a short stretch of double-lane highway. The roads are well-paved and wide, making for a relaxed journey.
Parking & Fees
When you arrive, you may be asked to pay a small fee for parking - or not. It seems to depend on whether the man who lives next to the path is around. Sometimes he asks for a contribution (usually around 100k VND for a group of five), though it’s never been entirely clear whether it’s for parking or entry. Either way, it’s a good idea to bring some small bills, just in case.
On the Trail
From the parking area, follow the yellow arrows. The trail to the falls is about a 10-minute walk and generally easy to follow. While it's doable in flip-flops, we recommend wearing sandals with straps, especially for kids. Some parts of the trail require scrambling over rocks, which can be tricky in loose footwear.
You'll also need to cross a shallow creek. The sand is soft, so you can either walk through barefoot or wear shoes that can get wet.
Food & Waste
There are no food or drink vendors near the waterfall, so be sure to bring your own water and snacks to enjoy by the swimming hole.
And finally, bring a bag for trash. Unfortunately, litter is often left behind by other visitors. If you can, help out by packing out some extra garbage and leave the place better than you found it.
